Roof Motor - South West

Afternoon all,

Typically as the sunshine started about a fortnight ago, the roof motor went on my 2003 Z4 :(

Any recommendations as to where to get it done around Bristol? Trying to find a few quotes, cheapest so far is £840 parts and fitting which seems reasonable enough however shopping around can't exactly hurt.

Ta!

Forza West in Chepstow. Owner says he can replace without removing roof so should keep labour costs down.

When mine finally goes I will find out. Apparently there is an access panel in the boot that - with the right tooling - can be removed and used to do the job.

Will give a ring tomorrow and find out, thanks very much all :p

I would guess if it is possible to do without removing the roof then it should (hopefully) cut the labour charge considerably!

They have quoted me £720 for parts plus fitting and apparently it will take 3 hours.

Much better than anyone else that's for sure. Will just have to get a day or two off of work and take it over to them!

Thanks very much gents.

Motor is £306 and housing (if required) is £58 from BMW Sopers including postage so that you give you an idea if you think their fitting charge is reasonable. Looks like 3 hours @ £100 per hour plus VAT.

Yes the right tooling is called a chainsaw! :)

Good stuff. And without being biased you are in very good hands.

Well had the motor done today, thanks for the advice all round gents.

Took it to Forza West on recommendation and it's now working perfectly! He showed me the old part after and it was literally just a block of rusted rust, it's no wonder these things break so easily. Cost was £730 and it took about 5 hours.

Can't recommend them enough anyway for anyone in the south west, also quoted me £425 for my inspection 2 when due as well so will be going back for that if I still have the current Z when it is needed :driving:

Good to know and glad it's sorted

...... but I'm still intrigued as to how a motor can be changed without removing the roof? :?

That's more than my Indy charged, and they took the roof off and replaced my Bowden cable, so where's the advantage in doing a 'keyhole surgery' motor replacement?

Did they take the roof off?

Would imagine so, given 5 hours labour.
