Roof motor replacement

Hi all,
New to this forum having just purchased a Z4 3.0 year 2004

Are there any members who will replace the rear roof motor obviously for a fee,

I live in Devon so near by would be appreciated but I am willing to travel to get it done for the right price
Also I am pretty handy in the DIY stakes and would be willing to help if I can.

Thanks in advance

Hi Neil and welcome. Have you purchased a new motor and you just need someone to fit it for you?

Hi,
I'm having the same problem, the roof unlatches and will latch again with the buttons, however it won't go all the way down. I understand from these forums that it's the motor.

Can i cause any damage by simply pushing the roof down with my hands once it unlatches and then pulling it back up and pushing the button to get it to latch again.

I was quoted 2700 dollars (I live in canada) to fix it. It's not a big deal to push it down and pull it up. Unless it causes damage.

Thoughts?

Hi Scott and welcome also. if you use the boden cable you will not cause any damage. However, by forcing the roof down without by-passing the hydraulics it will put a strain on the roof. My understanding is that eventually the strain would "warp" the roof frame.

The boden cable is in the trunk top left, it is a red ring. You need to pull it out @ 4mm and turn it so it cannot reseat. If you look closely, you will see how it works. Basically, when you look at it as being diagonal, to by-pass the hydraulics it has to be horizontal if that makes any sense. :)

Your very welcome, :) Glad i helped you out mate. Yes, it will be fine, that's what the boden assembly is for.

But if you fancy having a go at fixing it, give this a read. Im sure it will get you thinking, It did me.

I would like to thank TUG TAYLOR for all his help, he has helped me on the phone on numerous occasions during the past two weeks, he has never been to busy to stop and talk even talking me through some procedures whilst on the phone about removing the hood and all its components.

When I eventually got to the motor is was full of water half way up the plastic casing/box and I feared the worst but with the roof out and on the garage floor the motor was separated from the hydro unit and dried out and liberally sprayed with WD40 it burst back into life(maybe I was lucky as I've seen some really bad ones on here).
When reassembled to the hydro unit and power supplied via a spare battery the roof operated fine.

So it's now back in the car and working properly.

Ok I know I've made it sound easy which it's not but it is pretty straightforward in a methodical way..

Once again many many thanks to TUG TAYLOR who inspired me to have a go ,he optimises the friendly spirt that the forums are based on..

Finally anybody in my area of Devon/cornwell who has the same issue and fancies having a go themselves please get in touch and I will try to help you like Tug helped me..
