Roof motor replacement

Hi All

Seems like nobody can recommend an indie nearish to Oxford. Local BMW were unwilling to give me an estimate, but eventually said a straight motor replacement would be £1000+.

I'm not mechanical myself, so no chance of a DIY job, so will have to travel to wherever can do it. I've seen references to costs of about £600. Where are these indies, please

Thanks
Barry

Hi Spearman

That is the Indie that I use for both the Z4 and 540, but he has never done a roof before, and suggested I try to find someone with experience of roof motor replacement.

Thanks Deka, but I was hoping to find someone a little nearer to Oxford than Telford or Durham :-)

No suggestions from anyone in the Home Counties/SouthEast/South?

My roof is working fine , but a there anything I can do to keep the motor in good working order. I don't think I can take it apart but if directed , I can clean or oil certain parts!? I'm just dreading on the motor failing

need to clean the drain holes on a regular basis.... there are some instructions in the how too section

If you haven't done it already, it's always a good idea to lightly lubricate all the roof joints and windscreen surround catches with a PTFE based spray.
Just put the roof half way down and get to work on the joints; anything you can do to help the load on the motor can only be a good thing.

I am getting some work done by CPCPE in Amersham, about 40 or so miles from you. Price is very reasonable and he even recommended I go on eBay for a replacement window motor as cost £20 (used but apparently rarely fail) instead of £130 new. They are busy as are one mechanic down at the moment but possibly worth a shot. Not sure if they have done roof before but you can only ask.

I will let you know how the work goes.

As a post note, I got a new Regulator for the window from Jamie at Sopers Lincoln. No online parts quote could better it and even the guys at CPCPE said it was an amazing deal.

Thanks FAARN,
CPC looks promising. I'll give them a call tomorrow

Thanks Gary
I will try the Amersham contact first

No problem. Pick mine up tomorrow, been happy so far. Looks like you got a good price on the roof fix too.
