Roof motor repair

Hello,

I am currently in the process of repairing my roof motor. Whilst the roof is out of the car I thought it would be a good time to test it all. The motor is spinning but the roof does not move. The bowden cable is in its slot. I did loose quite a bit of hydraulic fluid and I have got some on order but with the Easter bank holidays it won't be here until Tuesday!

Anyway just to give me a bit of reassurance and put my mind at ease, would the motor spin but the roof not move if the hydraulic fluid was low or is this problem related to something else?

if the cable is seated properly i should think the lack of fluid is all it could be, try the cable a few more times as ive heard it can seize at the motor end.
regards

It can also be the pump/valves or something like that.
It's a fairly simple excentric pump though.

Did you get a new pump or managed to save the old pumpmotor?

Trying to save the existing pump/motor. Cable should be seated properly since they haven't been disconnected from the motor end.

You can run the electric motor for a few seconds in some diesel (dip it in a can of diesel, apply 12v). It will clean the motor internally and reduce the corrosion.

you can detach the pump housing from the motor.

The motor has already been detached from the pump housing and cleaned up. It is spinning strong now, no issues with that side of things. But now that its all back together again its not operating the roof at all, the only thing I can think of is that low level of hydraulic fluid or maybe I've put the pump housing and motor back together incorrectly but I have undone and reassembled this a few times checking everything is correct when putting back together. Would low hydraulic fluid stop the roof from moving at all or should there be some sort of movement. Also although the system is supposed to be self bleeding I have read a forum post from another member stating he had an air lock in the system and he had to manually release the air in the system by loosening the top up allen bolt on the fluid reservoir and run the motor.
