Hi

From research I see there are several members on this forum who will relocate the motor. Is there a chap who does it based in Leicester? If so what is his name?

Thank you Zach

Don't think there is anyone around the Midlands who will do this, nearest is Nuber5 in Bristol who is on this Forum

Hi Paul

Thank you, I will be in touch if I want to take you up on the offer 👍

Tug used to do them and was based in Leicestershire but I beleive he stopped doing them due to health issues a year or two back.

And Yes, I do them and am in Bristol if that’s any use to you ?

Thank you for the information Alan. The car is currently at a BMW specialist and I am awaiting to see how much they are going to quote. Then I can add up if it’s going to be better travelling and getting the job done by either yourself or Paul

Thanks 👍

Pretty certain we could all give you that answer now!
Route planner to Bristol................. :D

It is doable yourself if you are handy with tools and enjoy contortions and pain, the added bonus with using Alan is that if the motor is a write off and beyond resurection he has spares to replace. A day out to Bristol would be well worth it for what he charges.

I found a very good video on how to do it here if you’re interested…

I know our local Dealer charge around £1000-£1200 and will only put it back in the original location

its a pain in the ass to do....nightmare to get to from the boot, but is doable - just expect hours of swearing and cursing bmw engineers for putting it in such a stupid bloody place... hardest bit is getting the plastic cover off....but it is worth a try yourself - spending a grand is crazy to move a motor...the motor is only £150 new...

A quick update, firstly thank you to all those who have commented and messages me to help with the roof issue!
Also thank you to Inky for sharing the above video. I have a garage very local who I know well who are happy to do the job.

I need to get a new motor in case our current one cannot be salvage. Is eBay the best place to go, or does any here have one they would be happy to sell?

Only my fourpenneth- don’t spend your money until you get the motor relocated: the majority are salvageable

If it’s not- then it’s been relocated to an easily workable place!

Totally your call but I know I was in the same mindset before getting my first relocated- it was sat in rusty sludge. It came back to life!

Number5 (Alan) repaired and relocated my roof pump motor on Saturday. For me, it was well worth the day out to get my car repaired properly, by someone who knows exactly what he's doing. He was able to repair the drowned motor and polish up the rusty casing so that it looks presentable. He even installed a trimmed panel in the boot to cover the motor, so that it looks standard.

I'd highly recommend this service...and all for £150! Thank you so much.

I would hold off getting a replacement, get yours moved to the boot first then see if the motor is saveable, if its really bad sioaking it in diesel will free it off, dry it out and bench run it by applying 12v to it, switch the connections so it runs the opposite way and once happy that it performs ok put it back in and test the roof operation. If its duff at least it will be in the boot to make replacement a doddle. Refurbed or new motors on ebay prices vary, circa £125 upwards. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265130403462?fits=Car+Make%3ABMW%7CModel%3AZ4&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item3dbb00e686:g:3n4AAOSwUgJgfjgt&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAACkPYe5NmHp%252B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsStdebXPz4ZTXCT8FI9kPBh%252BFVQbBzIp4yyTl7YyfRodHbshtXNR%252BISPdiSxTanRRfUxh0cpnkY6gukYgD2hb%252BBkZlWYd86eepjG%252FdrY3PyK6SS5Ux9JAUrOcZz%252FAaiu9ZUAYmUc2qisD1olnry3i8nxvzXCQFeHB9ZlYGbim4kbuKsnF1kC1UwbzVRaYd0RzaSuES%252FDfiCow7yFm9FIBCWpgfEk%252BPj%252BNwxQf7r%252BPnKgoEzru%252BQLw56nGyi3jq55Q2Fz490153DW2ps1wbnyQOOszeEu7kAui5hlvbNQm8xRQ8PqMaUXnLnA8U3q3QERImMvlgsCaHGIMN31Kx8jwoHlyMDlMWsLyWmK9k6lmVHu3lG69FiCLY%252BJWI93qMiiExHUnAVz2h57f8bj1ZiGXE4Hz4%252F3vAdm9QBsJ8DJ9B6vLCCsm1e3StUc3U4b%252B3j3Qx2nA%252BK0evhfECuN9mA8UAYBYMt1vc%252FTa9OOKd6QfkUE8RzCP%252BN8MabCKfxGN1V%252BI5atMYuXBAwTquIcVhLcO5BznFlZEF2z7gnizHG90svucErUhvTE2ob1ztXh3x1eHtmaACGiU2Rmwt01o%252FJXXMlSF6g8GHKpOP45mHMPQ3aYosdaTQRWg4uKLC8ilBg11QplK47FdonPlWmoDzSR5qm%252BjJFeCbLBOkPqyDOPuJUgTeBGn6LUbT9IwiD5z34FZEJG%252BwLnEVaaUyMxeb8CcQmLVbqAyyAKDHj%252FJSMksRUYS4IPJblnwvJvFrqba9fHH2L4Zjrj58qdt5ZnLQ9L2aBzX0yaBkySY8veIFSDvE2ZmnOVY6aY7HrS9YJ736ponc%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524

Alan (Number 5) relocated my roof motor to the boot this morning. Although it turned out to be in excellent condition (we even thought it might have been replaced at some point under warranty?) its peace of mind knowing its been done.

Alan did a highly professional a very neat job. Highly recommended!

Hi Number5. The motor has gone on my Z4 roof and you seem to be the guy to speak to. Can you message me your contact details so I can get in touch please?
Thanks
