Roof motor question

O.k. so my roof will not come down but I'm not sure I have the usual roof motor problem. Hoping someone here can tell if my symptoms are correct or not for roof motor replacement. I press the retract button and the hooks unleash and the roof unlatches. Then the motor engages but nothing happens. The motor can quite clearly be heard turning but nothing is moving. It's almost as if the motor is running but the mechanism is not attached to the roof or something. I might try to upload a video of the sound. When your roof failed did you still get a motor sound or did it completely die?


Also of note is that I cleared my drains about 2 months ago and I also tested their water flow yesterday. Every drop of water I poured in came straight through.
 
You sir, are a legend. problem solved! This car causes an undue amount of stress sometimes! Was on a long road trip last week with the missus and thought the motor had packed in. Obviously when we were packing the boot full of suitcases and whatnot the handle got inadvertently snagged on a coat or something.
