Roof motor question

Hi All

I have a connection issue on the bottom of the roof motor that should be simple to fix, but is being a PITA. Simply put, one of the female spade connectors keeps working loose and needs to sit in a very particular place in order for the motor to work. I check the connector is clean and a snug fit, open the roof and go for a drive, then the roof won't go back up until I push/pull/fiddle about with the connector again. Of course it's the terminal that sits against the wall and not the exposed one I can see.

Odd thing is, the motor was relocated to the boot over a year ago and has worked perfectly and has not been messed with since relocation.

Anyway, enough rambling, my question is, in order to check the motor fixed terminal is secure, I could do with the motor being out so that I can get a good look at it. Is the motor removal from the hydraulic reservoir as simple as removing the two Allen bolts and pulling apart? Will the fluid leak out? Are there other bits that will fall out?

I recently had to fit a new motor in the boot and created a thread here which you may find useful , see last page with pictures . I mounted my motor using a old car coil bracket and had it so that it held the spades tight in place . If i want to remove the spades i have to loosen the bracket i fitted .

Yes you will get some oil leak out of the lines so have a rag handy and put the roof up first so as to fill up the lines with oil . Easy enough to top up by removing the screw on the top of the reservoir . I just used hydraulic oil from halfords . Bear in mind you may have to run the roof up and down a couple of times to let it fill the lines .

By the way make sure you don't get the lines mixed up when removing else you will be in a world of pain . Label them first.

Hi Lance,
Can you just squeeze the spade connector with a pliers and crimp it on a little better ?
Also, perhaps pop a cable tie around the motor body to hold cables in place near the base?
