I am looking tobuy a z4 facelift version 2006 onwards, do these have the problem of rotting roof motors?

To the best of my knowledge they did redesign the cover on the facelift 2006+ but I've still heard of the odd issue with them. I think its more common on the pre facelift. Not to worry if you're buying AUC as the warranty will cover it. If you're not buying AUC, then you'll need a third party warranty whatever route you take as these cars are silly money to repair, roof motor or whatever else might go wrong.

I would say invest in a hardtop and do a yearly checks on the roof drains

I have a 2003 Z4 and the 10 year old roof motor is still going strong

Facelift just as prone, and in some ways worse as if water does get into the motor through the seal it then fills up and never empties.

Regular maintenance to the drain holes is the answer. Replacement cost isn't that bad if you can do DIY. Put money for warranty in the bank instead as I would bet you'd be quids in.

A few of us actually think the facelift is more prone to a waterlogged motor, by which the new insulation the motor is wrapped in actually retains water

Wash your mouth out :telloff: :D

Mine is a facelift, motor failed at about 6 1/2 years old - more and more facelifts seem to be failing lately. Srhutch's advice is good - tuck £350 away for a motor and if it happens (which it may not) then make the decision whether you do it yourself or pay a garage to do it. If you get a car with a warranty and the roof fails it's not the easy claim you'd think... But it has been paid out on for quite a few members on here. Mine had an AA warranty when I bought it that explicitly covered the roof motor... But it was only a 3 month thrown-in version
