Does anyone now how to check the oil level for the roof motor. My has stopped working, but I can still hear the motor running.
Thanks

don't think you can without removing the hood.

however, in the boot, you'll see a red pull handle on the left side of the roof tray (top of the boot).
make sure that handle is pushed in (to the left) as far as it will go.
you may need to twist it 90 degrees to get it further in, as it can rest on the plastic catch (designed to work that way).

if that handle is out, then it disengages the motor, meaning it will spin around, but the roof won't move an inch.

edit: you definately cant. TIS confirms its a completely closed circuit, and no maintenance is required or possible.

if the handle is in, it could still be the motor has failed. it may still be wirring, but not have enough power to turn the pump.

Hydraulic oil can be changed. However, the roof will have to be removed. My friends Z4 motor had the dreaded water ingress and the hydraulic oil had been poisoned by water as the filling screw at the top was loose needing a full hydraulic flush through. Well worth it. I will be doing a how to in a few weeks of the oil change procedure and the difference in the oils.

You can remove the motor without removing the top from within the trunk. But you have to be small and agile (and know where the nuts and bolts are as this way you'd do things mostly blindly or with a small mirror/endoscope).
This guy does it professionally this way and relocates the pump in the side of the trunk to prevent further floodings:

However there always can be something else wrong like the hydraulic actuators or a leak in the lines etc.
