roof motor north west

Looks like the roof motor on our 54 plate may have given up.

I live in Bolton so will probably be looking for a recommended garage in this area.

Taz, did you supply the parts yourself?

If so where did you get them from. Looks like I'll need a new motor, housing, insulation and possibly wiring loom.

I think i've just joined the Dead Roof Motor Club this morning too.The roof unclipped and then i just got a low pitched whine and a flashing red light. Gutted. :x :(

I was considering giving Hind Heath (http://hindheathbm.co.uk) a call as I'm closer to Sandbach in Cheshire but Sale is easily reachable so its good to know there is a good service there, ta for the info ye55 taz.

(edit: Just called and found out Hind Heath won't do Z4 roof work)

Had a good look at the drains and although the offside is partially blocked and sending water down into the sill, the nearside where the motor sits is dry and clean. So might be an electrical fault. None of the three roof related fuses have blown.

Just spoken with Forshaws in Nelson. Taking the car in Monday and expecting that it will require a new motor which they are ordering in for me.

They have quoted £670 to do the replacement including motor, casing etc.

Seemed reasonable to me.
 
Ridiculous how BMW have gotten away with this blatant design fault scot free. I was watching Watchdog last evening (yeah, I know!) because they said there was a piece on a Citroen suspension flaw that was only showing up after several years of ownership, outside of warranty. Not only are Citroen footing 80% the cost of repair bills, they are paying out on retrospective claims as well. After originally denying any liability.
 
Had the roof motor replaced yesterday at Forshaws. http://www.forshawsindependantbmwmini.co.uk/

Drain on driver's side was completely blocked, which explains why my offside sill was filling with water. Passenger side was clear, which shows that the drains don't need to be completely blocked for water to make its way into the motor casing.

Forshaws seem to have done a great job. The roof operates even faster than before and with a bit more force behind it.

I'll definitely be taking the car back to them in future.

Total cost of parts and labour was £640 including VAT.
