Roof motor - noisy but works

Hi

Yesterday my roof motor started making a weird noise when going up and down. It's not slower than usually but it doesn't sound right so I'm afraid it's dying. I've always drained the holes several times a year and also done it recently so the holes are definately not clogged up.
I'm thinking the sound it makes could be because of a hydraulic leak somewhere and the motor barely has enough fluid to work ...but again then it should be slower than normally...

The video doesn't work for me, but perhaps an iPad issue. Motors tend to fail totally.

Is the frame moving freely and not causing the motor to work too hard?

Never had a motor or hydraulic failure in 13 years so can't comment on oil top up.
 
Yeah, I've read about the motor failing easily because water making it rust, but I don't think that's it in my case. Roof is moving as it should but there's kind of a screeching sound 3 or 4 times on the way up or down. Difficult to explain - hence the video 8)
 
To me the motor sound OK, is it the click sound you are on about. When it ckicks it appears the the roof jump/stutters. So perhaps mechanical rather than motor.

Yeah that's it...probably my english wasn't good enough to explain it properly... any idea what it could be?
 
Why not disengaged the hydraulics (red lever in boot/trunk) and move the roof by hand. You should be able to feel any restrictions, perhaps get someone to move the roof and you can be in the car to look and listen.

I wouldn't do that as in most cases it a real pita to re-engage the pump. Mine is cord operated.

I'd lubricate all the mechanism first and eliminate that.

How do you acces the reservior to top up?

You need to either take the roof off or remove it from its hole and re-house it in the boot.

I had mine re-housed in the boot so its easy to top up and replace should it fail.

I also had it moved into the boot because where it sits they tend to die from waterlogging.

There is a thread on here where someone will re-house your motor into the boot for £80. Look for it and get it done.
