Roof motor maintenance advice required

One for the roof motor experts if poss - please

My roof motor has been relocated and has lived in the boot for about 2 years now and worked fine for about 18 months. It still works, however not every time. The microswitch is fine, the windows drop and the roof unlatches every time.

Get in car press open roof, all good. Get to destination, press close, the Windows do their thing but nothing at the motor, open boot tap the motor and give the nipple thing between the terminals a twist and all is well again. Go do a bit of shopping come back to car and nothing, do the tap the motor thing and all is well. This intermittent work/ don't work thing happens almost every time I try and use the roof down/up. Note - it's not a loose terminal.

Is separating the motor from the hydraulic top part a simple process, is it just the 2 allen bolts and the separate? Will bits fall out and or will I lose fluid?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thank you.

The commutator inside the motor will have some corrosion so depending where the motor stops will need a tap or spin on the shaft to move it off this corroded point.

Separately the pump from the motor some parts from the pump can fall out and oil from the pump will definitely leak.

Appreciate the response Mr B

If I do go ahead and separate the motor from the hydraulic part, is it just the two Allen bolts, and is it fairly obvious how it goes back together (assuming bits fall out)? Lastly, is an oil top up easy, and will I need a specialist hydraulic oil?

Alternatively, are there any roof motor people near me that would be willing to have a look?

TIA

Hi Lance - did you find out what oil goes in the roof motor?

I didn't, however, like Smartbear I've also heard that trolley jack oil does the job.
