roof motor in the boot anyone?

We were parked up next to each other at Shepshed Tug - you gave a great explanation of whats involved and it's a great forum price IMO.

I will definitely be in touch in the spring (my car sits under a half cover throughout winter so no point now).

Ask gasman (from your previous topic), he has been to pixelrichter and has this mod in his current car afaik.
Maybe he can make some pics or so.

Also a lot of motors are salvageble if you clean the motor/let the motor run in something like diesel oil
As Guido mentioned earlier (sorry haven`t seen this thread in July  ) my roof motor has been relocated in the boot by pixelrichter.
Guido is also right about the fact that most motors don`t need to be replaces by a new one, just draining the water and cleaning with some WD-40 or diesel usually does the trick.
I actually bought my car with a discount because the motor was broken, 1,5 hours later at pixelrichter and the exact some motor worked just fine.

Some quotes from pixelrichters website: (I will translate for you  )
Bisher wurden über 1280 Pumpen erfolgreich umgebaut
Until now he relocated the roof motor for 1280 Z4`s (actually I was customer 1003  )
Alle umgebauten, aber nach BMW Meinung defekte Pumpen verrichtet ihren Dienst wieder wie am ersten Tag. Bisher gab es leider 37 defekte Pumpen, hier mussten wir eine neue Einheit verbauen.
All modified pumps, which according to BMW where broken, work like the day they left the factory.
Sadly until know 37 roof motors where damaged beyond repair and needed to be replaced.

So of the 1280 roof motors that he relocated to the boot, only 37 of them where damaged beyond repair.

It may be a bit late in the year, but we had the pump replaced in our Z4 yet again, 2 years since the last time at just over a grand. The car has been garaged 80% of the time so really very disappointed to have to have the roof fixed again.

We got Autoelectron in Harrowgate to do the job this time at £598, this for a brand new pump from BMW that he fitted in the boot on a bracket, a neat job. OK it was a 300 mile round trip for us, but well worth it as we intend to keep our baby for a long time.

Its madness to put this pump back in the original position, what were you thinking about BMW when you designed the car???

Have you got a pic of how your pump is mounted now?
+1 for a picture or 3 :)
Here is how my pump is mounted in the boot.
I don`t have a fancy bracket like Kencurtis seems to have.
It`s mounted with only a Ty-rap, that seems a bit odd, but the pump is only fastened by ty-raps in its original location as well.

As you can see the pump is quite rusty, it was resting in water in its original location, but after some TLC and WD-40 it worked just fine again.
If it ain`t broken don`t replace it !

Fancy piece of carpet to keep the pump out of sight, and protect it from damaging

Thats a very neat installation - the same way Tug had done it. Seems the odd contours of the boot are perfect for hiding the motor away :)

Just wondering if it's any noisier with the sound insulation box missing? Or does having it further away, in the boot, reduce the sound coming through? Not that it's that much further away.

Same here  definitely want this doing on mine as I don't fancy a big bill.

Wonder if it's difficult to relocate the pump yourself?

Hi everyone, been away for quite a while due to a very heartbreaking family matter :(

So if anyone is still up for relocation in the spring then i would be only too pleased to help.

Cheers tug.

hi bony / mark thanks for your concern :) but unfortunately it will take a good while to get over this one im afraid. Thats why i can help with relocation in the spring. hopefully i will be in a better place by then.

Cheers, tug
