Roof motor gave up the ghost today :(

Not a happy bunny! I have seen quite a few how to's here on how to take the roof off and refurbish the existing motor which I think I will try in a week or two.

GUTTED though! :headbang:
The front catches came off as usual but then nothing, motor doesn't even want to think about moving! Thankfully the catches lock back in place!

Any other suggestions as to what this could be?! Clinching at straws here that it's something else!!

Not nice. Stupid design. Anyway, it probably is the motor having given up, but if it has gone suddenly and you can't hear anything then it may be an electrical fault - when the roof motors die through corrosion it will probably sound laboured for a little while beforehand. You would still need the roof out to check on the motor though.

To be honest it has sounded like it was straining for the last few weeks. When locking open at the back and when closing at the front :( Just hoping that it's salvageable!

To be fair , these cars are getting on a bit now, and things like this do fail on older cars. Not as expensive a fix as it once was.Do some searches, it seems it can be replaced for about £ 400 these days. Mine hasn't been replaced yet ( 2003 3.0) and I'm expecting it any time, and when it goes I'll fix it and never have to worry again.

if it has struggled then it sounds like the motor has gone. I took mine out a couple of weeks ago to see if a bit cleaning up may have fixed it,,, i suspect that this is a replacement motor as it wsnt that bad just a small amount of rust, got it spinning ok replaced it and it didnt work.

Strangely the other day i pressed the button just for fun and it opened 3/4 of the way.... i then closed it. think it was a one off.. but may try removing it again.

Good luck on having a go at doing it yourself. I wouldn't recommend trying to refurb the motor......you're only delaying the inevitable. Buy a new motor for £300 ish and replace it.

Just my opinion.......let us know how you get on.

I had that problem it's well known. Took mine to a good Indy it meant a new motor etc. fortunately my Warranty Direct policy covered it .

That's lucky, the WD Platinum policy I had on another convertible wouldn't cover roof motors or hydraulics, it's worth checking when you sign up.
