roof motor failure

Seems to be a lot of roof motor failure around at the moment - TBF it's only mentioned when it fails - there must be many around that have survived without fault for years. Doesn't really seem to be a common denominator why this happens although the suggestion is that a car kept outside is more susceptible to this kind of failure. Without tempting fate too much it would be nice to hear from early E85 owners who have never had a problem with the roof - positive feedback instead of the usual gloom when something goes wrong.

Hi there:

Someone can give some advice re the roof motor failure? was told it was caused by the leaking water contaminated the motor. Need to replace hydraulic part. Parts cost £350, labour cost £360, plus £255 diagnosis fee! It is totally ripped off!!!

any advice would be much appreciated!

It's original on my 2003 (not tempting fete I hope :|) I cleaned the drains when I got it three years ago and again every few months but it was fairly clear, but It was garaged by the last owner and now myself so maybe that helped?

mine was garaged by previous owner ,i've cleaned the drain holes when i bought it , now it sits outside 24/7 and roof still fine :D but i don't really worried as it's a cheap fix if you can do it your self ( i do )

Original on my 2004, also cleaned drain holes when I bought it, not garaged by me but don't know about the previous two owners.

Seems to happen every year as Spring approaches. I firmly believe that sitting unused all Winter is a contributing factor. TBF, more from the presence of excessive moisture than lack of use, but I think at least occasional use can help drive out minimal amounts of moisture. There is no hope if the motor is sitting in a pool of water.
