Roof Motor - covered under warranty?

Hi guys,

my roof motor decided to pack it in today, I'm gutted. Even more gutted when I discovered someone has snapped the red ring pull out of the boot so i can't even lower it manually. The roof motor was replaced last March though by Williams BMW in Rochdale and I have the invoice still.

Should this be covered under a warranty for all work done by BMW?

It will be covered................

IF the motor recess isnt full of water and your drains are blocked. Make sure they arent before you hand it in for repair...

I'll assess that now... Although looking at the invoice they only appear to have charged the price of the pump and not the labour. So will I be entitled to a new pump but will have to pay for someone to fix it?

It's the part that's got the two year warranty and they won't be bothered if you paid for labour or not. Faulty part will need to be replaced and they will need to cover the labour too.

They might however chance their arm at getting you to pay for a new red pull being installed. Shame you hadn't noticed after it was fixed as I get a funny feeling it was possibly done when it was last replaced. They would of possibly pulled it to get into the roof compartment and could have snapped it.

Not too fussed about paying for the ring pull to be honest - as long as I don't have to pay for the ridiculous starter motor and labour price!

Also - is the roof motor behind the driver or passenger?

The roof motor is located by the passenger's left shoulder in a RH drive car. If you manage to get the roof halfway up you can get your hand in there and feel around the housing to see if you have a motor jacuzzi... :)

Mine's currently stuck in the up position - the windows descend and it unclips at the front but there's nothing pulling it back. What's worse is the red pull ring in the boot has been snapped off at some point too, so I can't even lower the roof manually!

Not wanting to bring a downer on proceedings, but if water has caused the failure then you can bet they will try to worm their way out of replacing it for you. :(

Even though they did the replacement the first time round! :fuelfire:
