Hi guys, been watching this forum for a while now, great forum.

Need help pls, my roof motor is gone, BMW specialist that I am using cant fix this he is referring me to main dealer, which as usual talks always in 4 digits when it come to fixing something. Do anyone of you know any in depended dealer or good garage within reasonable distance to London who can change this, if so how much did you pay if you used them? roof needs to go down and motor need changing. Thanks.

BMW quote 4hours to do a roof change. The replacement motor is around £300, so add the two together and your looking at around £800.

Not all independants will touch a roof change as an alignment jig is required (apparently - but this will depend on who you talk to) to put the roof back in.

I had mine done at an independant and wish I hadn't. Motor developed a fault and the garage charged me a couple of hours labour to investigate and confirm it was faulty - it then went to BMW to be fixed.

Try this company. I found the prices for BM parts very reasonable, plus exceptional service.

According to the TIS, the alignment jig (special tool 54 3 200) is only used to hold the complete assembly out of the car to test the operation of the top. It (the TIS) does not refer to any use of an alignment jig/tool for installation. The only adjustment that should be checked is using a caliper to measure the gap between the inside edge of the side panel and the main bearing, ideal dimension is 52+- 1mm. This is done with the top in the car.... in the TIS refer to RA 5431000

If they don't want to do the repair, it is most likely that they have never performed the maintenance and don't want to try...
If you do it yourself, it should take you 2 hours or so.
