Guys (and gals) - I have a 2004 zed and I have a roof motor issue that doesn't seem to quite fit with the standard 'broken pump' and I wanted to poll for some thoughts and advice.
First - the roof motor has not gone completely. When I disengage via the standard button, the motor whirrs, the locks disengage just fine. Next, the motor continues to whirr but it doesn't seem to have the power to pull the roof back. If I give it a friendly push back, it lowers the roof just fine, it 'locks' into place and then the roof goes back up just fine. It literally is just that first 30cm or so that it seems to have trouble with.
Some googling suggests it might be low hydraulic fluid. I took it to Cayman Autos in Dorking earlier today and they reckon it's the valve within the pump that's faulty and that I need a new pump. Not low fluid or water immersion (although how they can tell that without taking the roof off is a mystery to me, which makes me slightly suspicious (probably unnecessarily).
Does anyone have any thoughts about this - do you think Cayman autos are right? It's not a fault I've heard of before to do with Z4 roof pumps. Could it still just be low hydro fluid? Lastly, they have quoted me £660 plus VAT for new pump, fitting and a year's warranty. I think that's reasonable, right?
Thanks in advance for any replies
