Hi all , I recently purchased a reinhold roof module from another member . I fitted it today but it seems to be a bit erratic , sometimes it works fine ,
sometimes it stops halfway through, sometimes nothing , any ideas ?
 
I guess there are 2 things to look at based on fitting a few of these, although I have never had the operation stop half cycle only ever fail to raise ot lower until it is correctly set up.

Firstly did you use any scotchlock type connectors? If so go back and do it again with solder. Andreas of Reinhold reckons 99% of problems relate to non soldered joints.

Secondly you have the 2 adjusters on the white and yellow wires. Try moving these to tune in the module. They usually need some tweeking

The final issue is that sometime the temptation is to press the blip too many times or too fast
 
The half way bit I have not seen, but if you have the adjusters in the wires, you may have to adjust those.

Regarding that it sometimes does not work: I had to press long presses, so 3 times cliiiiiiick cliiiiiick, rather then quick clicks ...

C´mon you gotta post quicker than that...lol
 
Solder the joints! Have had a modle on now for 3 years and no problems. If you solder disconnect the iron from the mains just before soldering the joint as the current flow through the iron may effect the BMW circuity (or so I have been told......!)
 
AlanJ you are probably lucky. All I can say is that I had conversations with Andreas, the manufacturer who advises that 99% of errors are due to (IIRC his terms) mechanical connections Vs physical ie scotchlok Vs solder. I've had about 5 of these units from him and personally fitted 3. Soldering is the way to go if you have problems.

Yep - you are right about the current however if you do as you say and disconnect then there should be no problem. Alternative is gas powered, etc. I belive if you treat the cars circuit like you woudl whne messing inside the pc you'd be OK
 
You may all have hit the nail on the head here . I used scotch connections , but to be honest I would never be able to solder
the connections under the glove box . There is just not enough room for me to be confident . I shall have to have a word with a friend of mine
and talk him into it . Thanks for the advice .

Anyone has any contact with Reinhold directly? I have sent an email in the past and never got a response.

I have a new module here which does NOT have the adjusters on the cables, so I am wondering if I am going to have problems when I get around to fit it.

My error - apologies Alan. I should have known you would have soldered them. :oops:

Diggler - yes it is a little tight, but if you undo the connecter and work a couple of inches of cable free it's not too difficult. Hardest job is getting yourself under the dash to see what oyu are doing, as you no doubt know...

pvr - I had a good email exchange with Andreas. He seemed very helpful and prompt.
