Roof module needed for remote roof opening and closing?

Hi all

Currently I am unable to use my remote to open and close my 2012 E89 sdrive roof. I was told that this is normal and I will need to buy and install a module for this to happen.

Can I have some advise if this is true please?

Thank you.

This is correct and sadly it's not cheap...

Thank you greg81.... it is a shame indeed :( need to save up for it.

Still very happy to have my ride as it is for now :)

Even used units still command £250+ on eBay. Worth checking every now and then though.

The code you want is STLFBW3

You should be able to open your roof, by pressing and holding the unlock button. However you cant close the roof via the remote without an smartbox.

I believe only when battery is fine

I have also fitted the Carstyle unit as Robby suggested. Works great.
Took me a couple of hours (check, double check). Next time I could also do it in half an hour

Before you spend hundreds on a module try getting the car coded on Carly, my 23i would not open the roof on the fob till I coded it. To close it on the fob you need the full comfort access package, I have it on my 35, you can open/close it from the fob at a distance.

Are these smarttop kits easy to fit? :?
Yes bud, especially if you already have the panels off for fitting something else (like a reversing camera  )

hi Jan, could you send over the installation manual?

it is not available on the web, thanks - I wanted to prepare, mine is arriving very soon

Just finished this afternoon fitting my cabrio-module roof module... Instructions were okay but still you need to be careful with what you do... It was an interesting to do and not without some fear - fear of causing a major problem such that I can't get back to the standard operation..

Found out that the open roof/close roof wasn't working.. tracked this to an old/weak battery - I'm waiting on a new one to arrive. Running the engine and testing with the 2nd key and all was good...

I purchased the unit through Ebay and paid about £130 as there were no other bids.. Very happy with the final result..
