Roof locking latches in boot - What for?

Hi all.

I did a quick search but couldn't find an obvious answer here.

Had a bit of a panic this morning as an orange warning was coming on when I tried to lower the roof. Turns out that the valet guys had locked it up with the latches in the boot. I didn't know they existed until 10 minutes ago.

Could someone tell me what they're for please? Clearly they lock the roof up (or down?) but under what circumstances would these be used please?

Thanks
Steve

they lift the shelf/compartment the roof goes into up to give more storage in the boot.

it does make a difference and means you can get a reasonably big box in

Note that you can only lock them in the "up" position (to get more space in the boot) when your roof is up. If you want to lower the roof, then they have to be in the "down" position (as you have found out!)

As others have said, it's an iIncredibly useful feature for extra boot storage space.
