Roof lining

Hello there,

Looking to get some pearls of wisdom on an issue I have with my fairly recently acquired Z4. I noticed that the passenger side roof lining has become 'saggy' for want of a better description. It appears as though one of the fixings is not working.

From my quick initial look - it seems as though a plastic clip should be fixing itself to a screw? However, this seems to have split meaning that it won't 'grip' now onto the screw. If that's correct then it looks like the plastic bit is knackered so not sure there's any DIY fix I could do - maybe needs a trip to the dealer?

Was hoping to see what others on here thought as I'm sure someone probably has a better understanding than me and can hopefully offer advice on getting it sorted.

I've got exactly the same problem on my M, although I've not had a chance to look into it properly yet.

I'm sure someone else on here has probably had the same and found a fix for it. I expect they'll be along shortly!

I too have this problem and have been looking for instructions to remove the inner lining so I can fix the plastic strip. I can't find a guide so can anyone point me in the right direcion please?

Me too

Liking the superglue idea, but may ask at the stealers...

Guy's Im sure there is a proper repair kit available from BMW, that would be my first port of call.

I had exactly this problem last year, and after much research in t'interweb, I ended up on some surgical websites, looking for a knot which could be tightened "remotely" i.e. which could be tightened up inside the roof by pulling from the outside, using fine fishing line. I subsequently managed to do this, although it was devilishly difficult to learn how to tie the knot and manipulate it up into the roof using a slit length of stiff plastic tubing. Unfortunately, I did not document my endeavours, but the fix has held for over a year so far, and cost virtually nothing. Fishing line is very strong, and abrasion resistant , so I hope that will be the end of it for me.

I promise to check out my PC for the link, as it's worth a try, my "sag" was on the passenger side, just above the passengers left ear.

Ironically, I think the knot in question was developed for brain surgery! Lol.

:-D

mine went the other day. i put the roof half down then slide the clip back under the torx screw with a bit of glue. held it for a few seconds then tightened up the torx screw. with the roof half down, the stress is removed and it makes it easier but still a pain in the ass
