Roof leak

Hi, owned my 2012 Z4 3.0 for nearly 4 weeks now, delighted with every aspect of the car. :D

However I noticed about a week ago that the car was steaming up a lot, but I just put it down to the poor weather. It's got progressively worse and yesterday I found a deep puddle of water behind the passenger seat :x I soaked it all up and hoped it might have been a slightly open window or similar, however this morning it was back. On closer inspection I can see the water is coming in where the top panel and back panel meet, it's then running down the trim behind the speaker grill and filling the footwell.

The car is going in tomorrow to be looked at but I'm panicking as I've read the BMW approved used warranty does not cover seals, strips or channels. :(

Has anyone had a similar problem attended to under the AUC warranty? I really don't want a bill on a car I've only owned for 600 miles and less than a month.

Well good news and bad news - the good news is that they are repairing the car FOC. The bad news is that they are in the process of ripping out the interior including seats and carpet. Partly to be sure they have found the leak and secondly to dry it all out as there is a lot of water in and under the carpet.

Should I be concerned with any future problems? Corrosion, electrics etc. I'm sure they know what they are doing but once the warranty has expired I don't want problems to arise because if this.

Well that's good and as daunting as it is they will ensure they've found the leak. I'd think if this had been going on a while it would have had a musty smell inside the car.

Due to a leak in my mini years ago the garage took two days making sure the car was dry and then retested to ensure there was no further leaks before returning the car.

I'd just make sure there is no damage to the interior from removal and reinstallation

Thanks, for the reply.

Well here we are nearly a week later and the car is still not back, despite them telling me they had a 'special drying room' (which I thought was a bit far fetched) they reckon the carpets are still not dry.

As of today im pretty angry as I think they are just stalling, I dont think its acceptable that a car I have only owned for 4 weeks has been off the road for one of them and is now on its third fault...

Much as I love the car im starting to think ive been sold a duffer, Ive a good mind to reject it and ask for a refund / replacement. :x

Hello

Any update on your problem, it would be nice to know what the problem / cure was

keep us informed

regards

Ah the 'special drying room', the one right next door to the 'high priority' room.

They could have a body shop on site and dry it in the oven of course...

It will be really dry then.
