Roof - Kapput

I put the roof down this morning and it went down very slowly - just glitch? so up it went again, albeit very slowly. Down again - even slower this time - and there its stayed. The motor runs so probably the hydraulic pump? I'm guessing, as there a more qualified folk here to make a better judgement than me!

Fortunately Ive got a BMW warranty so hopefully it's covered. (£100 Excess) The real downside is that they cannot take the car 'til 9th May - two bank holidays and some weddng or other!

I just hope that summer does not happen over the next three weeks!

Sounds like the pump, yes.

Summer has been moved each year to April / early May.

At least you will have a roof again for the rainy season ... :)

Never mind eh? As long as it gets fixed!

Although only 40k on the clock, its got to that age when things break down with age, a bit like me really!

Is the pump and the motor a combined unit do you know? It would be ok if I got the whole mech replaced whilst the ragtop is off! :D

PS No smug comments from the tintops either!

On the roof problem- today i noticed a little tear in the roof fabric on the inside. What do i do? advice please.

A bit harsh.......

You could sew it with your own thread.... :D

OK - harsh, intended to be read tongue in cheek and no offence meant, but fact is that it's better to start a thread for a totally different subject and get relevant comment and opinion based upon readers with an interest and viewing based upon an appropriate header

Pump / Motor is a single part to answer that question...

Thanks for the info.

I gather that the new unit will be the updated and properly sealed unit. Thats one less thing to worry about.

I bought a BMW warranty last year and thought it was money down the drain. I did the same this year and I'm glad I did now!

Its like all insurances I suppose!

Jeeeeeeeezzzz c10jeeper you r creeping me. Hands off mate. If you r having a bad time dont show it on me. not necessary to be rude. Sorry I asked the wrong question but hey we are all in here to talk about out cars and enjoy. You are a headmaster/headmistress are u? :?

Just had a call from the main dealer - Its the Hydro unit! so as pvr says, I will get the whole assy replaced - That warranty at £425 was not a bad buy this year!

The guy on the desk was unsure if it needed re programming after fitting but says if it does, they will see if they can do a roof open amd close from the key! March 04 so he's unsure if its an option.

Now the roof is fixed the weather will change

The delay has been three very short weeks and the garages roof bod being on leave. Never mind, I'll not have to wash the car!

What did I say about the weather changing?

Three weeks of sunshine, the roof out of action then I collected the car, they had washed it, vacuumed it ready for collection.

Roof down and off went! Half way home the heavens opened! Just as well the roof worked!

When I had my roof changed, the whole thing, frame, rag top, motor, etc...Frame broke and top needed to be replaced anyway. I had an upholsterer do it and we didn't need any key programming. Worked just fine afterwards.
