Roof issues!

If the tray was raised up too far, then the rear shelf micro switch would be made and you would get an orange flashing light when you tried to lower the roof.... that is unless of course the micro switch is broken and the wires have been shorted out by previous owner. It might be worth checking if the micro switch is fitted and working corrected and the rear shelf is lowered
 
Hi JPJ65, the first thing that i would do is check the hydro lines. The motor works on a flow and return basis so it could be that one of the lines as somehow become kinked/trapped somewhere.

To check these, they are found clipped to the hoop which runs around the base of the roof accessible from the boot. Follow them round as much as is possible. If no obstruction is found then unfortunately this is all pointing to a failing motor.

However, if this is the case it can be rectified with a relatively small outlay, a good bit of time and help from the forum. I myself will offer as much help as you need.

You should talk to the seller. As it sounds like you will end up getting someone to look at it, and could cost at an Indy up to the thick end of £250. (down south) so it wouldn't hurt to get an agreement of sorts.

I really cant think it would be the motor as in theory it MUST take more effort to raise the roof than it does to lower it?

The motor presumably goes in the opposite direction to raise and lower it, so could easily fail one way instead of the other.

Shame you purchased private and didn't test every single switch, button, heater, window, etc., etc.
Hope it's not an expensive lesson or you got a good enough deal to factor in a roof repair.
 
Hi I've got a dead motor also on my 2007 Z4 Roadater does anyone know of a person in the uk that refits it into the boot area , only its bad enough Paying out £700 or so but to have it possibly go wrong again within a year or two would make me very annoyed :evil: if not has anyone drilled a few extra holes to stop build up of water and has this worked ? Thanks Sam . :oops:
 
Im going to see this chap in a few weeks, new genuine bmw motor installed at a reasonable rate, he also modifies the drainage system to prevent damage to the new motor, I also have symptoms of a dying motor however i was fortunate enough to buy from an an honest seller and knew this at purchase and haggled the price accordingly.. Ive spoke to Mervyn at Autoelectron and he seems a very knowledgeable and professional chap... hope this helps :thumbsup:
