Roof issues...

OK, so nothing major but I just wanted a few opinions.

Lately, the roof has started playing some strange games. Let me start by saying that my roof is down almost whatever the weather and sometimes can be up and down 5/6 times a day?

When i first got it, the roof would go down quickly and come back up quickly, when it was coming up, it would hit the top of the windscreen with a thud which i thought sounded unhealthy, and then pull itself secure.

Lately, when putting the roof down, it occasionally makes the 'whirring' noise and the light stays red even when the roof is clearly down. To rectify, its finger off the button and hold it down again, until red light goes off. Occasionally following this, the red roof light will start flashing as im driving along.

On the way back up, it no longer clatters into the windscreen leading me to think its not going to lock into place properly, but it does. Seems to take a little longer.

Has anyone had these problems, or know the cause?

Its under warranty, so would you suggest taking it in and telling them? Let them have a look at it now while its an intermittent problem? REALLY dont want it to come out of warranty and go wrong.

Mines never hit the top of the windscreen surround with a thud just stops slightly short pauses for a split second then locks in.

Hmm so maybe something was wrong from the beginning?

It's booked in the for the morning - he said its quite a common problem, could be the motor, the mechanism, any one of those things.

At least it is getting looked at.

Also, he said it should come down onto the top of the windscreen quite hard - and if it stops doing that then it may be a sign that the motor is failing?

Just thought it was worth mentioning.

The only Zed of about eight that I've driven where the hood hit the windscreen surround hard was a 3 month old 3.0 si, but I think it's all in the original factory alignment and adjustment, and not a sign that the motor or pump is failing.

...my motor, pump, rain chnannels and hood were replaced just a few months ago and I don't get the closing hit.

Just quoting what the guy in the service department told me.

Im hoping this is the case also as mine has stopped hitting the surround and started pausing for a second 8)

Might be worth lubing/oiling the pivot points on your frame as this helps the motor by not putting so much load on it.
