Roof issue

Hey folks,

I've been looking into buying a z for a while and I've come across a 55 reg and quite interested as it's in good shape for its age, only issue is when j tested it out there was an issue with the roof, you pressed the button to open it and it made the noise, unclipped at the front but wouldn't retract the roof, if you gave a it a nudge a few times it went back. Coming up was fine. I told the dealer I'll be happy to take the car if he gets a new motor installed which he's currently doing so happy days for me, only thing is does that sound like what happens when the motor goes? Or is that indicative of a different problem? I've looked around and others say it may be a battery issue?

Yep, sounds like typical roof motor failure.

It could be that the latch mechs need some luberication.If they are putting in a new motor all the better.
Ask can you see the old one in case they are telling fibs.

Try and keep the old one as they can be bought back to life, also worth getting the new motor moved to the boot

I didnt ask for for them to keep the old one as im defo going to the the motor moved to the boot - although it will be garaged at night theres no harm in keeping it as dry as possible so once i take that to get done ill be able to see if they were telling porkie pies, the dealership seems legit so ill give them the benefit of the doubt.

Bit of a side question but the car is currently on a private plate which the dealership are keeping (apparently its worth a fair few quid and it didnt interest me in paying the extra to keep it) they said they would M.O.T the car before I bought it for my peace of mind and checking the gov website today thats been done but its on the private plate not the plate ill be having when i pick up the car, is that going to cause any issues anyone can think of?
