Roof issue (not the usual) calling No.5 FIXED!!!

I suspect I've got the exact same issue, since my top stops working once it closes just a hair.

Is there an accessible other end to that roof harness to just check continuity to confirm that a wire is broken before stripping the inner fabric?

In case it helps someone, I have been having a few roof issues after removing and refitting the parcel shelf.
Eventually the roof got stuck down with no lights showing on the roof buttons when pressed. It seemed completely dead.
I connected INPA and it showed a fault:

With INPA, I tried to close the roof. It moved the windows and there was a whirr from the rear but nothing else happened.

I thought either the control panel was faulty or I'd got Bigwinn's broken wire problem.

Just before stripping the roof to check the wiring, I thought I'd try a hard reset by disconnecting & reconnecting the battery.

Hey presto, it fixed the problem. Presumably with me fiddling with the parcel shelf and manually moving the roof (whilst trying to get the infamous clips back in) I must have confused the car's brain or the gaptech into not knowing the position of the roof.

I think Martin had similar recently with a similar issue- his reset was that the windows needed to re learn the anti trap

I found it interesting that in INPA you can view how many times the roof has been cycled in its life.
Mine is up to 1560.

I wonder what the record is ? :)

off outside with laptop under arm to have a look...

I still need to get to the bottom of converting INPA into english despite changing every INPA.file to english from german

grrrr

Another update. The roof stopped working again. :?

I shorted the parcel shelf microswitch to see if that was the problem. No joy.

Then I removed the Gaptech - fixed :) . But now no easy opening/closing :(
I'll see if I can live without a Gaptech, otherwise I suppose it's full price for another.

I think the Gaptech was constantly giving the roof a signal to open i.e the " 'Offnen' permanent auf GND", in the error message above.

Had a different issue with the Gaptech which was causing a parasitic drain.....once removed no more problems.

The Smart Top STLFBW7 looks a much better design. Just plug and play, but it's much more expensive.

Thanks for the offer Stuart. I've coded it already with NCS Expert.

It's just more of a faff opening/closing without the gaptech as you have to keep pressing the keyfob button till it finishes. (Or is there a one-press option that I've missed ?)
First World problems
