Roof issue - Fixed!

Hi All,

Back to trying to sort out this roof issue. Thought I would have one last crack at it before popping over to RBM in Hook.

Just to recap..
Roof motor looks like its brand new
The whole wiring loom looks fine
Tried a different ECU and no joy, same issues.
Peeled back the roof fabric to check the hall sensors and they looked fine and not loose/moved at all.

I am getting codes...
43 drive cowl panel open circuit
44 drive cowl panel open circuit
40 drive cowl panel current too high

As I said, the wiring loom looks fine.

Any suggestions as what to try next? im out of ideas now.

Thanks all.

Have you actually stripped back the sheath and inspected the wires?
The fact that wiggling the loom got a temporary improvement still points to a failed wire somewhere

Thanks for the reply. I have removed the sheath and inspected the wires, and although some looked pinched, there doesn’t appear to be any breakages or anything too suspect there, unless there is damage inside the wiring cover that isn’t visible. I guess the only option is to cut and replace the wiring in that section where it bends just to be sure. I did a continuity check/test and it was fine. Will have another look at those wires, thanks mate.

Hi All,

Just to give some closure to this topic, I have finally managed to get the roof issue fixed. :D I booked it into RBM in Hook and they diagnosed it being the motor in the roof (the motor above your head that operates the hinges), they replaced it and its working like a swiss watch now, I always thought my roof was noisy in the 6 years I have owned it, and wow... its silent now, the new motor is so quiet so my old one must have had some issue, I just thought thats how they were as I have never heard another E85 roof in action.

Thanks to everyone who chipped in with advice, especially enuff_zed and Number5. Really appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

I had the roof fixed on Thursday and its rained ever since... RBM did my brake fluid and regassed the AC, I now have amazing brakes and ice cold AC, I am back to loving my car again! Lets hope the sun comes out again soon.

Best wishes
Karl

Good to know you've got your roof fixed Karl.

A trip to RBM was a good plan as not only is Ross who runs it another of the E85 roof gurus but can do any work your car needs. I've been taking both my cars there since Ross set RBM up. :D
