Roof inoperative

Tried to lover the roof today for the first time since last autumn. The roof button flashed but there was no response from the roof. The latches did not try to operate at all.

I had a new roof motor fitted last summer as that packed in.

Am I correct in assuming that the roof latches do not run off the hydraulic motor?

Where should I start with trying to diagnose the problem?

Cheers for any advice

Sounds like the leaf switch at the back of the shelf just behind the seats is not making contact or is broken. As has been stated, usually the shelf is in the up position or has shifted very slightly and is not pushing the switch.

Does your roof unlatch and windows drop?
Have a read through this thread.

Was released to find the parcel shelf not fully down this morning. Forgot to think of that in my panic last night.

Roof opened fine, went down but I now have another issue.

The roof does down but the motor keeps running and the latches do not lock it in place. It works find going up and latches to the windscreen panel correctly.

Reading other threads if looks like the convertible roof lowered hall switch may be broken or not adjusted properly.

It seems that the lowered snow closed hall switches are not accessible without removing the roof.

Any advice on what to do next appreciated.

The roof just wants pushing down to lock into the catch. It is due to being in the closed pos for a while.
When it's down next give the roof hinges a drop of 3 in 1 oil.Dont panic Mr Manering

+1 The soft top, if it has stayed up for a while, sometimes needs a few cycles up and down, with a gentle push down to help it lock, before it will lock down automatically.

The latch securing the roof when in the lowered position was subject of a BMW TIS advice in the early days with some remedial action recommended. The latch was subsequently removed in later models (not sure of the date).

these are located on the passenger side hinge by the roof pump. you could try taking the rear tray out and angling yourself in the gap but i dont think you will get to them without taking the roof off.
