Roof inner liner tear

Hey guys,

So my '03 Z4 had a rip in the inner roof liner, right over the passenger shoulder. Apparently this is not uncommon, and a few people on Z4um (the older forum) had reported it as well. Anyway, the dealer replaced the inner liner (after a lot of persuasion, and after I had sent links to the Z4um topics, which had pictures as well). But now another tear has appeared over the driver's shoulder. Anyone here had this problem?

Also, any good dealers in SoCal area that you guys could recommend? I went to Steve Thomas in Camarillo, and the experience was anything but pleasant.

Welcome to board first :) . I have personally never had a problem with my top..knock on wood..., but I guess the only thing to do is to take it back to the dealer for another repair. At least the dealership repaired it the first time. You know, they're going to fight you a little with stuff like that. I took my Z in a couple of months ago with steering problems and they 'couldn't replicate' the problem. I insisted that they keep the car and drive it until they DID replicate the problem. When I dropped it off on appointment day, I placed a folder with print outs of every single of these same problems other people had had I could find on the internet! I picked it up 5 days later with a brand new steering column, new radio, new gas cap and a few other goodies.
It really does pay to do your homework and show them paper proof. An informed consumer is pretty powerful. Good luck

I remember a few from Z4um - does it rub on the roll bars as it goes up/down? Is there any way of adjusting it, mine used to run extremely close to the bars, but I had no rubbing problems.

still though...ripping is much different from rubbing..any sharp objects protruding in your roll bar area that might be causing this? Perhaps your plastic roll bar covers are separating causing a sharp edge or something :idunno:

Mine ripped in the same place. I was getting ready to take the seat out and had removed the seat belt clip on the seat. I thought the belt clip got caught as the top was going down but after reading this post I'm not sure!

The rip was about an inch long. Because I thought I caused it I stitched it up with a curved needle and thread. Looks fine.

About time you showed up! Hope all is well with you.

If it has not been a year since the new liner was replaced, I would take it back to them and say they must have installed it wrong or it would not have happened. I'm not sure, however I think any part replaced has a 1 year warranty.

Will you be able to attend the Dec. 1st event?

Bob
