I just finished repair on my 2004 2.5I. I wanted to share because what I found is very different from all the posts I have read. I went in and pulled the motor and pump through the trunk. It was a pain but would be easier after the first experience just from knowing what to expect.
The strange part is I found the motor, the wrap, and the container all dry and pristine condition on an 18 year old car. My problem was low fluid in the hydraulic system. After adding fluid it is working fine. I am relocating the pump for easier access as I expect I will have to add fluid again some day. I can’t explain this finding as I have owned the car for 12 years and have never cleaned the drains. It was just dumb luck I suppose.
