Roof hydraulic levels

I have replaced the dreaded hood motor and was wondering If to check the hydraulic oil level you should have the hood up or folded down as the tis states closed but the glossary seems to indicate this means folded which seems strange as a closed position. If any of you could be kind enough to clarify as this will allow me to get the housing sealed and the hood fitted. It does seems to jolt half wave up so I'm wondering if this Is due to insufficient oil level or if it is me noticing something it has always done as I'm always paranoid when I've done something to the car. :)

That's about the same as mine but wanted to know the proper way of checking so that I can make sure it is correct before refitting. Just need to know wether you check the levels with the roof up or down. Many thanks paul
