Roof hoop

Hi guys

Further to my roof motor packing in I have been following shipkillers great how to on removing the roof.

I have got stuck removing the front clips on the hoop, I cant see how to actually grab the hoop and lift and push toward middle of car, do you just grip the softop
fabric and pull or is it possible to grip the actual hoop, I didn't fancy ripping the fabric so thought I would post the question. I have tried a search but it doesn't seem to be covered.

I got stuck at that point too.

if everything else is disconnected and the roof is mainly collapsed
grab the whole shebang, bars and what have you, just above those last clips.
give it a push say 2" in and down 1"
(It could have been 3" and 2")

You do have to give it a proper shove, (like you would your brother if he had nicked the last burger off the barbie) and you have to trust the cloth.

The roof structure is quite durable and seems to stand being twisted / flexed a good few inches.

It worked for me.

edit --- but as I don't want to be responsible for the destruction of your pram top please wait for another couple of posts that agree before you go ahead....

I had another go today, I wasn't comfortable with grabbing everything and heaving so I got back in the boot and managed to ping the hoop out of the clips with a flat screwdriver, it popped out really easy .

I got the roof out and as most of the other posts relating to this job the motor housing was soaked and the motor pretty corroded so I have ordered a new motor at £300.00 from my local dealer. The housing is in good nick and I have put the sound deadening on the radiator(not the one under the bonnet!!) :D to dry for a couple of days. I had cleaned out the drains when I got the car 2 1/2 years ago and it has been kept under cover since and not really used in the wet, but I found a load of crud in the well which had blocked the drain hole, it looked like decaying leaves.
Looking at the casing it looks like the water must get in via the hydraulic line access so as per shipkiller's guide plenty of silicon sealant around it when it goes back in.

I picked up my new Hydro Unit today and found a manufacturers label on it along with the BMW label.

I don't know if any one has posted this before but its made by a company called Hoerbiger Part No HB 70306-206b I tried doing a search and found the company, based in USA. http://www.hoerbiger.com/en-102/pages/152 It looks like the only supply the manufacturers direct.
During my search I did find a Hoerbiger motor for a Peugeot 206 cc on ebay!

I don't know if this post is any help to anyone, perhaps someone can track down a supplier other than BMW?

I suspect the motors are not really the problem, :)
it is a working waterproof housing that needs to be sourced :(
 
I thought I would post an update, albeit a bit late, I completed the removal , motor replacement and refit and I now have a working hood.

I had to reverse all connections on the new motor as for some reason the updated motor has been changed from original. I did notice a positive sign on the fluid reservoir that is on the opposite side to the old motor so that along with a quick trawl of the forum got me reversing the connection although the new motor is labelled up correctly.
