roof gone

You need to rotate the picture clockwise 90deg.

the drain is that pertruding tube... it normally has a rubber cap on it, which you will be able to feel and screw off.

I've been told by my inde today that they can put the motor in a sealed bag and drill holes in the bottom of the housing so that it doesnt collect water, drastically reducing the likelihood of this issue (if not completely removing it). He said its a couple hours work. I've asked them to do it, so will find out how much and whether the motor was already corroded. This is preventative work btw, no roof problems to date (touch wood!).
 
I've not seen the trap before, shocking - motor fitted in a sump with a piddling drain hole dohhh :headbang:

Soche - where is your indy based, I'd possibly be interested if they're not too far and reasonably priced.

Ewazix - wow. How did you access that - I'd like to do the same if it's straighforward?!

It is Grosvenor Motor Company in Reading. Following recommendations on here. www.bmwspecialistreading.co.uk
As it turned out...they were too busy to get round to doing my roof mod and as I needed the car back I couldnt leave it overnight to sort it. Will need to get it done another day now. They also said it might take 4 hours, suddenly the timing looks longer!!
 
Cant remember if ive asked this before(must be my age),but are there any warranty companies that would cover the roof motor?
 
Hi all,

Have not had my roof down since last summer. tried to use it for the first time this year and it has failed. The windows drop and the roof unlatches raises 1" but then stops and does not retract any further. Im assuming this is the motor?????? i have checked the rear shelf and the red hydraulic pull but they seem fine!

Am i correct in assuming it is the motor at fault? Im based inbetween Nottingham and Lincoln does anybody know anywhere close by to take my car to??

Sounds like a classic roof motor failure.

Can't advise on where to take it locally, but someone local may help.

As an aside you really ought to cycle the motor and roof on a regular basis just to keep it all working.

Yep, I'm with Warranty Direct and just had the roof replaced a month or so ago. The only thing they didn't cover was the seal for the motor which was £64.

Got the motor and sound insulation so mines all good to go - off to the indie to fit on 16th - can't wait!

Just had a look at my "BMW Insured Warranty" and it doesn't look like it covers the roof motor. :o
 
If anyone wants to look at the roof off or motor connection then your welcome to come round tomorrow, I'm based in tamworth... May save alot of money if you learn to take apart yourself?
