Roof fault

My cure for a roof fault.
Opened roof as far as roof stowed, boot lid open, then bong, it all stopped with iDrive warning along the lines of "roof impairment".
Problem was plug and socket had come lose on the right hand lift cylinder.
Need to remove the trim to see properly.
Can be reached from above if boot lid stuck open.
Picture 1, plug A came out of socket B.
Picture 2, plug A pushed back in socket B
Picture 3, second cable tie added to stop A coming out of B.
All working fine now.
Visually it can look as though it's fully plugged in, just push in first to make sure, then cable tie.

Maybe there should be a sticky for these simple but well depicted issues and resolutions!

I went out to try and find my random ‘roof movement impaired’ fault earlier, Carly Pro was showing no faults at all.
Thought i would start at the easy to get at hall sensor on the left boot divider
Found this65DD99FB-4A20-40C5-A99A-20CEB3364531.jpeg
Removed it and everything was working normally, ordered a used replacement from ebay for a tenner, arrived first thing the following morning.
Couple of test drives later i have no bongs or warning lights
Im hoping i have had a lucky escape, the price of hall sensors is ridiculous,
I have a friend that used to make electrical components for a business i was previously involved with.
Thinks its time to ask him to look at manufacture an affordable replacement
Cheers
Mike

That would be a very good idea, the cost of goods of the bmw part must be peanuts..

I took a hall sensor apart, there are only 3 parts, the hall sensor about 50p, resistor or capacitor 3p and a magnet 10p. And of course the wiring £148!

I bet the bmw wiring breaks a lot more than aircraft wiring as well :o

I guess if you have to prioritise what fails where then that’s the way I would have it...

Did have a car based connector fail on an aircraft engine once...fortunately with the remaining engine made an unexpected arrival at Manchester airport in the middle of the morning rush hour..a 747 has to wait while we were pushed off the runway!

Would it be a diesel jobby by chance. Even they go into limp mode.

Sadly the German s/w programmer decided that ‘any fault and we shut the engine down ya!’

So the connector came loose and the engine shutdown with an auto feather..

Pilot was perplexed why low volts, low oil came on...

Pax pointed out r/h prop not going round! 🤣
