Roof Error and Boot won't open

Thank you, I read on here that it can do opened using a diagnostic tool so would have thought they would have opened it on the first time the run it.

Many thanks for your reply.

Car is back and roof sorted. Hall sensor roof shell 2. No shorts to ground or short circuit. Sensor replaced. They did notice oil sump gasket leaking, did not realise how big a job that is for a £30 part! Only used a litre of oil in the last year and 5k miles so might have to recover from the cost of the roof repair first

£430

WTF?

What did it say on the invoice for parts, labour etc?
Flat rate not broken down. I looked at the hall sensors and they're £250 at the moment on eBay. Factor in the roof was open and wouldn't budge, add on dealer tax, seems about there. Plus the added bonus that lots of places don't like looking at hardtop roof failures so a bit limited when you have nowhere to keep it inside.

They quoted rear discs and pads at £390. Picked them up at euro car parts for £250 and fitting them with a friendly mechanic tomorrow. Add in an hour's labour, maybe bit more at dealer and isn't far off

Hall sensors available from BMW for a MINI for £13 each . You need to adapt the wiring (ask me how I know) especially if some idiot has super glued the connector in the past.
Most likely it will be the Micro switches on the hinges at the side of the boot space, again only £30.00 a pair from BMW but again you will likely need to adapt the wiring connector. Plug and socket connectors from eBay £4.50 for 10 pairs. Done my car this weekend for less than £80.00 for all parts.

Can you tell us which model mini uses the same hall sensors?

"super glued the connector in the past"

My cars first roof failure was due to a connector pulling apart, there is or was no locking barb, so i superglued it back together. No problem since.
I bought a sensor for £15 as a spare, you know for the life of me i don't know where i put it.

Time to necro....

So first time it failed, hall sensor replced. 6 weeks later, it failed again, this time part way open, boot open and roof halfway back into it. Back to BMW, said wiring fault. Disputed it was same error code as before, they couldn't argue, got the initial price removed from subsequent quote. Got car back, two scratches on the underside of the roof, back to them to get it to the bodyshop at their expense.

Fast forward 9 months, roof just failed, again, this time in the fully closed position, when I was across the road from BMW. Same error code on dash, same guy at the counter. Not sure who looked happier, me, or him upon seeing me. I know, good specilist indy is best option, but I don't know any down here that will touch it and I am no way capable of doing it myself. At this point as well, should have some kind of warrenty from the last repair

OMG.

Would like to support U, but this requires going the extra mile.

Costs would be much lower than having continuously expensive trips to a dealer.

I think at this point it would've been cheaper for me to drive to munich and buy you some beer
