Just had my 2 year oil/brake fluid service done today - had the roof drains checked at the same time - bearing in mind I've had the car over 2 years kept in the dry at all times so has never seen rain - a small amount of water came out of the right hand side 
the left hand side ( where the motor is located ) was clear 
Just goes to prove it's well worth checking .
