Roof Drain Plug Question

ive been doing this today, i found i couldnt get my bungs back on as the black modlue that there is right in the way. i guess as a halfway house some one could try to cut the valve/bung thingy firther up to open the holes up a bit.

i would be supprised if there was some negative pressure thing going on to suck water up. certainly the pipe is too big for any capillary action to be happening.

i was stuffed if i could figure out how to get into the top of the pipe so i used the hose from the bottom and then flushed loads down from the top by squrting loads in from the top.

i would say you can do it without the wheel on but it would be easier if they are off. you are definatly best jacking it up
 
Ah well, it must just have been a coincidence when i put the valve back in place, the boot dried out...

Or maybe i has a special zed!!! :rofl: :roll:

TIP - when removing the rubber bungs, removed what they are attached to as well, much much easier to put back in place. Just grab hold of the bung and the plastic insert comes out too.

This process can be done with the wheel in place, but jacked up and wheel out makes it a doddle.
 
I've left mine off with no issues, bigger hole means less chance of blockage. I also sealed the roof motor box when I replaced it.
 
Someone said there is a mod for easier cleaning the drain where roof motor is.
I mean that you can see the drain hole better or something. :o
 
The bungs were a cruddy but the pipes were clear as far as i can tell.
due to where i a at the mo i dont have anything like bits of pipe or wire etc i can shove up them so i just got the hose in there and sqirted it up a few times. it was a spur of the moment thing as i have just cleaned the hood and had the wheels off.

on the drivers side you can see in easier and if you shoved the hose in there you could see it filled up with water and then drain away, the water was coming out clear and fast. the little sump bit in the wing emptied within a few seconds. the passenger side i couldnt see much in but it gushed out of the bottom the same so i assume its clear.

didnt know about the whole thing coming off, ive kept the bungs so next time i might put them back on but for now i think ill leave it open and keep my eye on the boot for moisture.
 
I cleaned mine for the first time in oct... Full of mud like crap!

I did the same mistake and pulled the rubber bits off and couldnt get them back on... Managed to pull those black things they are attached to off with some pliers and then put my bungs back on.

I seriously don't believe that water will get up the drain hole and into the boot, or anywhere else. I don't think it can actually get anywhere else... When the drains are blocked the water sits round the motor for literally years, which is why the motor gets fecked. The ony thing I *think* I have noticed after having the rubber bungs removed is a teeny bit more road noise. But even that is so minimal it could just be my imagination.

its ok on the road noise front, liverpools roads are so fucked you wont hear that over the crashing and rattling of the suspension :lol:

Ditto here - added to the rattles that are part of our cars' characters any minor increase in noise is indistinguishable. Stereo volume up, loud pedal to the floor :driving:
