Roof down with key fob

Just to clarify.. you cannot lower or raise the top on E89 hardtops convertibles made for the USA, using the keyfob. You need Smarttop module or the comfort access option. For some reason you can lower the top on E89's manufactured for GB cars.
I wonder if our friends across the pond would be able to programme the roof drop from key fob using Carly? It worked for my UK car :?

Different guidance from different regulators means what you can do in Europe you can't do in USA etc..if you get bored read this on just US roof opening!

The op is UK based
I know, but many members here are from the USA and constantly wondering why they can't use the keyfob.

At least they don't have to put up with the shite base stereo

After reading all that no wonder BMW gave up doing it for the US market! :dizzy:

Nope. Neither Carly or NCSExpert can accomplish the task.

Are you sure you needed Carly to do this?
I thought the roof could be dropped using the keyfob on all UK E89s no matter what spec.

UK you are right and that is where the thread started as the OP is UK based but somewhere someone added a comment about US cars which cant drop the roof based on legislation.

I just added that as ZedBaron seemed to think he had to program his using Carly in order to be able to do it.

I think you are correct - drops off the key in the UK

Yep Nictrix your correct all UK E89s should be able to do this.... mine wouldn't, I searched the Forum and found others with the same problem. As our Welsh mate suggests it drops off the key, the car had been hardly used by the previous owners and I suspect it had a flat battery now and then. Luckily Pbondar had his Carly with him at one of the breakfast meets and saved the day... result  The amount of gremlins that seem to be released with low use/batteries thats why Ive always got it on the trickle charger now (even with a new battery).

Very strange. I wonder if you were to return it to they way it was before whether or not it would work now.

When I bought mine, it had sat in a garage for months, not started and guess what dead battery which resulted in 2 faults, the dread handbrake issue and the roof would not drop off the key.

Sorted the one issue at BMW and they charged the battery and guess what, roof now drops off the key, battery will defo stop it lowering.

My issue now if it won't drop is normally me being a numb nut and not putting the cover in place
