Roof corrosion (e89)

Honestly if there’s a fault I’ve not had with an N54 powered e89.... it’s only a matter of time.

Looks like another argument with BMW to happen soon...

No visible chip or damage.

The outcome of this seems to depend entirely on the calibre of dealer you have, Pastry’s dealer was body swerving all over the place to avoid resolving this issue yet it was a different story entirely when a different dealer was approached.
He didn’t even have to punch them from memory :)

Mine (2010) has a exactly the same fault. would you expect this to be covered under any warranty? I had assumed not but you post suggests it could be?

Search pastry’s posts, he had his roof replaced at no cost. They won’t do it if it’s caused by stone chips though.

Thanks - worth a go I guess!

I had a real battle with my E89 and corrosion and Lancaster BMW were particularly unhelpful. After telling me this would he covered under warranty (after I jumped through hoops proving the car was serviced as per schedule) a few days before I dropped it off I got an email from them saying the roof is excluded from the corrosion warranty and bmw will pay 50% as a good will gesture and was I happy to pay the other half (best part of £2k  )
To cut a long story short, after a lot of correspondence with them, the dealer principle and BMW Uk who all said the roof was excluded from the warranty because it wasn’t a fixed part of the car I was ready to file in the small claims court.
As a last hope I tried a different dealer, specialist cars’ of Tring. They sent me to their in-house body shop in Hitchen who pushed it through warranty without any hassle and did a great job fitting me a complete roof FOC

There was a massive difference in the attitudes of the 2 dealerships and I would certainly recommend the Specialist Cars bodyshop for Bmw’s And Mini

I would love to have seen their claim of no warranty because its not a fixed part of the car stand up in court, that implies doors, bonnet, boot arent covered either, they are no more attached than the roof.

I used Williams in Stockport for exactly the same problem..

Sorted without fuss...

Did a very good job too..

Exactly what we were all saying at the time.

That’s good to know as they’re the dealer I use.

albeit they’re also responsible for leaving my car running poorly after injector replacement. A battle still ongoing.

Fortunatly they have a new bodyshop manager,I knew him before he went to Williams and he is on top of his game.

The lads in the workshop in my experience are not great.
