Roof connections damaged when removing - help please

Hi

I removed my soft-top roof today in order to replace the motor. I followed shipkillers excellent instructions and other posts on the site and it was generally OK. I have an April 2003 Z4, so there were one or two differences which I shall write up when I have replaced the roof.

The question I have now is around the connections to the roof. I removed the connections as per the instructions but I seemed to have an extra connection each side. I left these on but when we tried to lift roof they stopped us - no problems just disconnected them.

Problem then was as we were lifting the roof off again, one was held onto and has come away from its attachment. So annoying after being so careful for everything else. I am hoping that I can solder this back on, but I am not sure how it connects (see picture below). They connect to the post where the roof joins the car just behind the drivers door and they don't seem to go anywhere after that. There is a label on it and from REALOEM http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT32&mospid=47796&btnr=54_0312&hg=54&fg=10 it seems to be a Right contact bush part number 54317075908 (label says 7.075.908.9)

Does anyone know what they are for and can anyone look to see how the right hand side (one red wire) should be connected.

This is the left hand side connector (two wires - brown and brown/yellow)

This is the right hand side wire - the one that we have pulled off of the connector - there is one wire - Red with black line

And this is the right hand side terminal - there seem to be two terminals so I am wondering which to solder it to. I think it is the left of the two terminals as there seems to be a bit connected to the wire and that terminal looks like it might have a piece missing

All help greatly appreciated

arent they the connectors for the hardtop heated screen element? they complete the circuit once the hardtop is fitted

They could well be. That would make sense in fact as they don't seem to lead anywhere. I don't have a hardtop - although the data card does say hard top preparation.

At least it won't affect anything currently, but I would still like to sort it out. Does anyone know which terminal I should solder it to?

Hmmmm. Thinking about it further I guess it won't matter which terminal if it only there as a connector for hardtop. Presumably they will both form a connection.

Still be nice to know which it would normally connect to.
