I think it looks better when it's colour matched, it highlights the impossibly small cockpit area which is what makes the Z so appealing. With a black roof it flattens the shape and you lose the roadster 'child's drawing' look. That's also why it also looks better without a window tint.

Ask a boy to draw a car and it'll always have a ridiculously long engine bay, tiny windows, impossibly proportioned cockpit and he's basically forgotten about the boot space.

Why not? Same as fitting black spoiler, grilles etc isn't it!

N0 ! Think the metal colour coded roof you have 2 cars in one. Coupe & roadster. Suppose we all different opinion's. I almost bought a porker boxster gts last month & the only reason I didn't was the fabric roof. If it had a metal roof it would sitting in my drive.

I think this depends on the colour of the car.
Some colours will suit the black roof and others wont.
One of the meets had 2 Valencia orange cars, one with an orange roof and one with a black roof. Both looked just as good as each other.
Our car I think looks great with a black roof

Good question I've removed the 'Sdrive'so far. I will fit the black lci indicators then decide if the 35I goes as well. Be a boring world if we all liked exactly the same things.

There is a Valencia Orange e89 near to me with a matt black rook. Must say the shiny black roof looks much better.
Looks good in the white posted by Marlon. Wonder how much for a roof re spray

Had the roof sections and door mirror caps painted to match the A pillars recently.Roll hoop covers were done in more of a matt black.My chosen paint sprayer wanted the rear window out for a decent job and I think it was £340 and £60 to the window tech to remove & then refit the rear window.
I priced a black wrap to the roof but the guy didn't fill me with confidence regarding the detail hence going down the more permanent route.....wrap was going to be £160/£180 ......can't remember exactly.
Half decent pics to follow when I get a chance....work is manic & have family here from NZ

Definatley improves the looks of the E89 having the contrast in colour for the roof. Looks sleeker IMHO :wink:

A few pics from a wee run out yesterday,only had the roof down for about 20 miles out of 300 but I'll take some shots of roll hoop covers today........typical,sun's out but I'm planning some DIY around house.

Contrasting roof on E89s definitely divides opinion on here, I think a contrasting gloss black roof looks great with most colours - particularly with white
19 inch alloys would finish it off nicely.

Was it the RS2000 ?

Don't think so, as early in the first series the cars used were mainly those of British Leyland. Ford were used later because of BL cars unreliability.

Must have been the TR7!!

My Z is silver, and the black roof looks good on it too. Was the black roof ever available as OEM equipment, or an option?
