So got me thinking.
My first car was a TR7 with a 70's vinyl roof.
What would a Zed look like with similar.
Keep the soft top crowd happy.

Pub quiz question..what car did Bodey and Doyle of the Professionals first appear in episode 1?

It's a pity BMW didn't offer the e89 with a soft top. I'd imagine it would have reduced the weight by quite a few kgs and given buyers a different option.

TR7, had one of those, ugly car then ugly car now!

Good question, hit me searching for the answer as I used to love watching those boys, Ford Capri 3.0S being my car of choice when I was 19...

Any way didn't quite work out the answer but found this interesting article on the cars used

Not sure of the colour name but that looks the best combo with a black roof IMO

It would. I would have bought one back in 2009. It was the lack of usable boot space with the roof down that stopped me.

Was it the RS2000 ?

Don't think so, as early in the first series the cars used were mainly those of British Leyland. Ford were used later because of BL cars unreliability.

Must have been the TR7!!

Now that I have black grilles, I was thinking about getting the roof and side indicators wrapped in black.

What do you think? Something like this:

Definitely - always liked the contrasting gloss black roof on the E89

Put me down as a definite No on that one  not doing it for me on any level

That's starting to look like one of those awful Mini Coupe things now you've done that. Definite No.
- I think it needs darker tinted windows too.

I've seen the black roof on a couple of cars so I assume it was a factory option? I think it looks fine, especially on lighter colours. I've gone for gloss black wheels, ordered black side indicators from Germany. The screen pillars are gloss black so it's a question of how far do you go? The se hasn't the black bumper and black rear of the M sport, Black front grills, black mirrors, tints, roof!

Why why why would you wrap/ paint the roof on a e89  suppose we all have different opinions.

Why not? Same as fitting black spoiler, grilles etc isn't it! :poke:

Actually, I think it's one of the main appeals of the e89 compared to the alternatives — you get the real coupe/roadster and the real convertible. But the next time I buy I won't consider a soft-top to be a dealbreaker.
