Roof closing problem

Today I have a problem with closing the roof ,starting with me pressing the close button then for some daft reason pressing the open button.
I have manually tried to close the roof but there is a lot of resistance so did not try to hard.
I can hear the roof motor running when pressing the open or close button.
My questions are
1 How far does the red handle in the boot move, mine seems to only pull out to the end of the guide, about 25 mm?
2 How easy is the roof to manually close?
I have removed the gaptech incase this was not helping.
If anyone can throw some light on the problem I would be gratefull
I hope people will bear with me as I have asked a similar question on a different thread.

Hi maxman, the red handle just has to come out as far as you are able to twist it so it cant slide back into place. then the hydraulics are freed enabling you to freely move the roof.

i am assuming that the unlock motor still works. if so then opening is straight forward, unlock with switch then manually pull/push the roof backwards (not upwards) it is really easy. when fully open use the switch to lock into place.

when closing, push the small panel in between the seats which releases the roof from the locked position. then, pull forward, it is quite hard but easy at the same time. when fully closed press the open button once, this will release the locking spikes, lift the roof slightly so the spikes insert into locking stations then simply press the close button until light goes out, done.

Thanks for helpful reply,I will try this out tomorrow as I have just arrived home from my sons wedding in Surrey this weekend.

Today is the first day I have had chance to take the car out of the garage and see if the roof will close,(I did not try to close manually).
Pressed the close button and hey presto the roof closed, looks like the six day break allowed it to sort itself out,to say I was relieved was an understatement :D

The roof working did not last ,new roof motor being fitted this Friday.
Oh dear :x at what cost? :o
The cost was £640.
The motor was fitted at Autotech Performance Telford. The difference in the speed of operation is very noticeable, ie a lot quicker.
