Roof Closing - Motion and Noise

Mine sounds exactly like the video, but the thud at the end isn't quite as loud. Motor sounds are identical.

Well my motor doesnt make any sound, because it died last september :D
Im planning to fix it when that snow melts away at spring..
Same here my motor has fallen silent until the not very helpful dealers fix it

Checked roof tonight. No loud thud as it closes. All smooth here :)
Thanks Adamski.
I need to check if i cant do something about that slamming issue, after i get that motor fixed.

Yes, it sucks :x

I'm planning to fix it my self, and save 700€ by that way..
They are charging 480€ for a new motor and sound insulator, and 700€ for labour.

The name "stealer" really stands for it in this time..

Thread resurection.

My old Z4 used to slow at the end of closing and rest itself gently on the top of the windscreen before 'locking in'. My current zed really slams home :( All of the Zeds i looked at were quite 'slammy' :x

After a quick search it looks like its something to do with a couple of tension belts. I stole this post from Zpost....

Is it part 17 tension rope? Or 15 tension belt?

Has anyone done this DIY?

Mine slams too, thought it was meant to. Did think it was a bit odd though

I don't know if the tension-belt-fix parts would even be listed in the standard parts list, I understand them to be an add-on part. There was an SIB issued about dealing with customer complaints about the top slamming that lists the correct part number and provides installation instructions. Someone motivated enough should be able to dig it up.

My roof used to snick nicely against the windscreen header until I moved the whole roof assembly forward a bit to minimise rubbing on the boot cowl edge when open. Now it slams slightly. The snick was caused by the locking hooks on the hood rubbing slightly against the rear edge of the opening in the windscreen header. This slowed the descent and made a cool sound, but the resulting friction probably was less than ideal. Minor slamming should be harmless, except for offending our mechanical aesthetic.

cj10jeeper you've described the *exact* behaviour of mine, right there :-) !

Yep mine too. Seems to slow down just before the latches engage and they pull it the last little bit. Definitely no slamming.

Just after mine got fixed it dropped quite hard on the header for a little while, now it is a lot more controlled at the end of the cycle, but I guess gravity will always have a small effect. The motor itself is brand new - pitch changes at the end of the up and down cycle as said, while it locks itself in place, otherwise smooth. It is a little noisy, but that may simply be as I have not heard it since late August when it died :D
