Did you lower the roof and then put the plastic sheets on? I need to clean the green stuff from my roof too. Am about to order autoglyn..

I've got the Renovo gear for my black roof so will mask mine this way. The renovo is so thin it goes everywhere as I found out when I did my 911 top a few years ago.

All I need is a little warm weather

Right so I can first try to clean the roof and green bits with the cleaner and let it dry etc and if it doesn't clean the green bits try scrubbing the affected areas again or try diluted bleach.
It's best to try all the cleaning choices before proofing right? No point in proofing if I have to keep scrubbing..

Leave the product on longer, or use Milton as suggested.

I love the plastic sheet idea - it'll come in useful when I next use AG sealer on my roof... Last time it went all over the windows and took an age to get off :slaphead:

There are many who believe you should use BMW products - BMW do not advocate sealing their fabric roof as it is breathable and designed to let water through the first layer. I've used BMW products and they do a good job.

My car is a daily driver though, so I have opted for the AG kist for the first time - works well, doesn't seal it completely, and as mine is out in all weathers I am happier it is more protected. Another make recommended by some on here is Raggtop. Never tried it. To be honest, whatever you do I would stick with products designed to do the job you are asking it to - you are protecting a fabric convertible roof, not sealing a plastic tent... Or whatever tents are made of nowadays

I really need to get some of the renovo and go over my roof, that one looks immense!!!!

I have the autoglym kit too, but I've only used the cleaner, not the sealer, as soon as it warms up I'll give it a go, and a write up with pictures.

I'm really impressed with the Gtechniq I1 Smart Fabric treatment, it works really well and it doesn't 'seal' the roof, it coats the fibres and makes each fibre repel water so the water can't actually 'wet' the roof (think of how water runs off a duck's feathers) but it doesn't fill in the gaps between the fibres so the fabric can still breathe - net result is that water just doesn't want to stay on the roof and beads up and rolls off

I think that s what the AG stuff does as the water will eventually soak through if there's enough of it.

No rain here today though, and my car is sparkly so I am off out for a hoon

I have skin that is as waterproof as the second layer of a BMW roof, but I would rather wear a raincoat than a string vest...

I have found that on my cars that sealing the roof prevents the green mould from forming within the fibres, keeps it less heavy and it also dries quicker.
I have have done it for years without problems or mould, just using autoglym once/twice a year.
but that's my experience, and not BMW's advice....

Yep, just half lower the roof, place a plastic sheet over the front half of the car covering the windows, make two small holes where it locks in to place and the remote close it. I then just tucked another sheet around the base and taped up the rear window.

I bought a bottle of the Gtechniq I1 SmartFabric Coat after reading the reviews and watching the videos. It will be applied once the better weather comes. It will be interesting to see if it lives up to expectations.
