Roof clean and proof

Hi all
finally got around to doing the roof clean and proof for my M40i and thought I would share the experience for anyone else interested.

OK so my roof was in a pretty decent state with no real heavy dirt or green stains - the dealer did a pretty good job. Never the less I wanted to proof it so decided to clean as well.

The products used were as follows:
GTECHNIQ Smart Fabric AB - 250ml
GTECHNIQ W5 Citrus All Purpose Cleaner - 500ml

I washed the car and roof as usual then used a hand sprayer to apply the cleaner to the roof. The instructions suggest 5:1 ratio with water for average dirt levels so I went with that. It was pleasant to use and I basically sprayed it on and gently worked in using a small sponge. After that I rinsed and repeated. It rinsed off pretty easily and seemed to have done a good job with a small green area I spotted once I got going, removed.

The 500ml bottle gives you loads so there is plenty left for other jobs.

I then waited approx 6 hours until the roof was really dry and applied the Smart Fabric. It comes with it's own sprayer and goes on really easily. I wore gloves / eye protection as recommended but again fairly pleasant to use. I tried to avoid overspray but where it did happen, glass cleaner got it off easily enough - I did action that straight away tho - would not recommend letting the overspray dry.

I should probably have purchased the larger 500ml Smart Fabric as I could not really soak the whole roof as recommended - I used the whole bottle and spread as evenly as possible with what I had. I see in some of the online vids people massage the liquid into the fabric - I didn't do that.

OK so the proof is in the eating as they say and the next day I did the obligatory pour a cup of water onto the surface and seems to have worked superbly.

The overall colour of the roof looks more even also.

So, would recommend these products, be interesting to see how it lasts :)

Cheers

Very nice, I have used it 3x now on the Z4 and after 6 months the fabric gets less hydrophobic.
But now I have orderd Fabric coat from Angel wax to see if that just as good.

Going to attempt mine in the next couple of weeks, been watching tons of YouTube videos and now armed with my Autoglym soft top clean & protect kit! Retails at Β£35.99 but got it at Status Car Care for Β£23.99 (should be enough for two treatments) + a donation of two bottles from PeeblezZ4

did my roof today with the Autoglym products and really pleased with the result, I'll have another look today when I take it out of the garage

Used GTECHNIQ Smart Fabric on mine, after a good clean. Incredible stuff !! 12 months on nearly now and it's still just as water repellant and beads like crazy πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

Yes I tried Gtechniq too the smart fabric, expensive for what it is but worked well.
The 303 brand is still pretty stand out though and cheaper.

I did look at others but figured by the one I thought best, regardless of cost really. At the end of the day its protecting a car worth over 60k, so 30 quid wasn't worth worrying about πŸ˜‰

Best thing you can buy is a soft horse hair hand brush and make sure you give it a good brush down regularly, keeps the crap out of it.

πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» Agreed! I always keep it brushed. I've got a soft nylon car valet fabric roof brush. In fact.....just this last few minutes finished cleaning the cars πŸ˜‰
