So,after only owning my z for several months,I must have brought the only car with every issue that's talked about on this forum.
When I first got the car it had a problem with the drivers door not opening,the bonnet not releasing,airbag light on,and various cosmetic issues.
Although I purchased it at what I thought to be a good price,I thought I'd be OK doing the work myself anyway,that was until I got the dreaded roof motor issue.
Anyway most of the problems have been addressed now with the inclusion of the roof motor,which is my main reason for this post.
Yesterday myself and my brother set about removing the hood with the excellent ship killers guide.
Now firstly let me say I was a little nervous about doing this,especially as I'd not purchased a new motor ready,(didnt have the £300 spare for the motor or the £650 to repair at the local indy)and read a couple of you guys had repaired the existing motor and managed to get it working again.
Well I'm pleased to say we managed to do the same,and I'm sure there are a few of you out there that will doubt the longevity of the repair,but after carrying out this repair I see no reason as to why this shouldn't last for several more years.
Anyone who suffers the dreaded roof motor issue don't feel that its beyond you to do this yourself as its really not that bad,I honestly enjoyed doing the work myself and would gladly do it again if the motor should pack up again(would. Replace if it happened again)!
From start to finish it took us 5 hrs and that included several breaks,and included a complete clean and protect of the roof.
If anyone suffers this problem I would gladly help them I'm in the Nottinghamshire area,and I'm so pleased to have done this(not only for the cost saving,but its given me the confidence to do other work).
