I have just got a Z4 2010 and the roof looks closed but isn’t the windows are still open and boot won’t open, I connected bmw Ista and no codes are stored for the roof or any codes, can I use ista to open the boot? I’ve tried to ISTA to open windows etc but no response which I suspect due to it thinking the roof is open, it’s in the uk so no emergency boot release, would the micro switches store as a fault? I’m suspecting it’s the salmon relays as it clicks when you press the open button, I brought the car with this issue so no idea what’s been tried previous.

Doubt very much it’s the relays…

ISTA can command the boot to open..

It’s not perfect but there are usually fault codes

Congratulation!

Well, it's an interesting topic of discussion you've opened here.
I have always warned against buying a Z4 with roof damage. It should be a clear task for the seller to get it working again. As a buyer, it is absolutely impossible to calculate how much effort is required and what it will cost at least.

How would I get ISTA to command it to open, I haven’t found it on any ecu call up functions?

I found it on ISTA under locking and clicked unlock truck it made a unlocked noise but still won’t open so I suspect it’s because of the roof.

If you have a decent code reader you should be able to see live data which sensors are operating.
Every roof fault i had there was a code stored making it easy to fix.
Only time no code and windows stuck down it was a bad contact on connector to the door switches behind the door card.
Specifically bad negative pin, the orange illumination was out to the switches..

Hey Peter, this post is intended as a discussion, not a problem solving thread.
